Edo 2016: Election’ll bring economic revolution – Obaseki

As the people of Edo State awaits the election of a new governor, candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Godwin Obaseki, has said that the forthcoming governorship election in Edo State will mark the beginning of an economic revolution.

Obaseki stated this at an interactive session with 2,000 support groups in Benin, the state capital.

He explained that the governorship election on September 28 would open a floodgates for the citizens of the state.

The governorship hopeful said the state government, under the Adams Oshiomhole administration, had laid a solid foundation, which he and his running mate, Philip Shaibu, would build on, when elected into office.

“Let me tell you that, for me, September 28 will be the beginning of a real economic revolution in Edo State. When Governor Adams Oshiomhole assumed office almost eight years ago, the circumstances were very different; we had to fight hard to free the state from the stranglehold of the PDP cabal, who had held us down in perpetual underdevelopment for 16 years.

“In spite of their fierce resistance because they had got used to sharing our money, we were able to rebuild schools for our children and we opened up many communities across the state, through the massive road construction projects that we undertook.

“Nobody thought it was possible but we did it. We proved to our people that with a good and determined leadership, Edo State can work again.”

He further explained that though the state was faced with many challenges occasioned by economic recession, his administration would improve Edo’s economy by broadening its revenue stream through strategic investment in critical non-oil sectors.

“As an investment banker of over 30 years standing, I have helped create wealth and jobs for many organisations and with the experience I have garnered in the last eight years of working with the governor, I believe that I have all it takes to be the driver of Edo’s economic revolution,” he said.
