Former President, Goodluck Jonathan Monday, dismissed comment credited to his successor, President Muhammadu Buhari, saying he, Buhari, inherited “no light, bad roads and no railway.”
Buhari, a statmenet recently claimed that he inherited nothing from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, upon assumption of power last year.
Buhari who stated this in his hometown in Daura, Katsina State, had said, ‘‘I want Nigerians to realise that what this government inherited after 16 years of the PDP government was no savings, no infrastructure, no power, no rail, no road and no security.
In his reaction, the former President via a Facebook Post, said he was proud of his achievements especially in the area of rail construction.
Making reference to a piece written by the Special Assistant on Digital/New Media to Buhari, Tolu Ogunlesi, which was published on January 12, 2015, Jonathan said, “I am grateful to God and my team for what we were able to achieve with our railways, among other things.”
Ogunlesi, in the article entitled, ‘The case for and against President Jonathan’ had extolled Jonathan’s achievements.
Jonathan in his post lifted the quote from Ogunlesi’s piece, “Let’s start with infrastructure. On the railways, the Jonathan government scores high marks. The railway line between Lagos and Kano has been revived after about two decades of inactivity.
“The Enugu-Port Harcourt line has just been launched; Abuja-Kaduna is almost finished. There was a determined push to upgrade airports across the country, for which we are grateful,” he said.
