MOSOP assures of FG’s implementation of UNEP Report

Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People, MOSOP, has expressed the hope that Federal Government will implement its clean-up programme for Ogoni communities in Rivers State.

MOSOP President, Mr Legborsi Pyagbara, who spoke in Bori, headquarters of Khana Local Government Area of the state, at a peace rally with the theme, Sustainable peace for environmental protection and political development, said though the restoration programme had been delayed, he was hopeful it would soon commence.

He said that the peace rally was aimed at promoting the values of peace in the area before and during the clean up exercise, stressing that all Ogoni should create the right atmosphere for peace in the area.

He advised against acts of violence, saying that the Federal Government could see it as reasons to abandon the environmental restoration programme.

The MOSOP president stressed that Ogoni had been known all over the world as advocates of non violent struggle, pleading that youths should sustain the culture.

He regretted that violence at a time was imported into the area by external forces, a development he said did the area no good.
