Rivers rerun: Wike compensates defeated former lawmaker

By: Felix Ikpotor

In his characteristic manner of rewarding defeated lawmakers with council chairmanship position, the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike has compensated one of the defeated former lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly elections of December 10, 2016, Anslem Oguguo by appointing him as Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state.

Oguguo a candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was defeated by Azubuike Wanjoku of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the election to represent Ikwerre State Constituency in the assembly. His appointment was made Tuesday after he was screened by state assembly.

He replaces Mr. Nwoziri Bishop who was appointed CTC chairman of Ikwerre local government area just last month. Reason for Bishop’s sacking was not disclosed.

It would be recalled that Wike had last year appointed Adonye Diri as Caretaker Committee Chairman of Opobo/ Nkoro local government area after he lost to Anderson Miller of the APC to represent the area in the assembly before the election was upturned by the Appeal Court.

Speaker of the assembly, Ikuinyi Ibani while comfirming Oguguo after his screening urged him and his council on fiscal responsibility and further used the avenue to warn all CTC chairmen in the state that it will no longer be business as usual and that they should provide equitable leadership in their councils.
