IG of Police wants to kill me – Wike

As Dakuku warn governor against suicide…

Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has claimed that the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, is after his life.

Wike stated this while speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt, the state capital on Saturday.

The Governor said that the IG of Police, directed his crack team to invade his house in Asokoro, Abuja on Friday, supposedly acting on information from a whistle-blower.

“I want to reiterate, the Inspector-General of Police is after my life,” he said.

Wike said the raid was a plot, to plant firearms, cash and other incriminating exhibits in his Abuja home.

“All attempts are being made so that they will go and plant either AK-47 or $1m in the governor’s house. They can even plant costly wrist watches as a propaganda tool.

“I said I have to let Nigerians know that this is not the way to go about in a democracy. Rather, this is an attempt to truncate democracy. That someone differs on issues does not mean you have to go after the person’s life,” he added.

Wike also dared the police to come to his home in Rivers to conduct their search, instead of his Abuja residence.

“Nigerians should be aware that should they raid my house in Abuja and claim they found anything, it is incorrect.

“I have not been going to Abuja, but I will be in Abuja to wait for them to see how they plan to plant guns in my house,” Wike said.

Meanwhile, the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Chairman AAMA, Dr Dakuku Peterside has warned Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike not to commit suicide and hoping to hang it on the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.

Peterside said the allegations by Wike that the Inspector General of Police had concluded plans to assassinate him for holding contrary political leaning from the ruling APC-led federal government.

He further said it was shocked to the nation when Wike alleged that the police boss sent a new commissioner of police to Rivers State with the sole aim of killing him.

According to Dakuku Peterside, Wike may be planning to commit suicide over his failure to provide credible leadership and reality that he would fail woefully in 2019 elections despite receiving huge sum of money running into hundreds of billions of naira and hang it on the Police IG.

He recalled that; his earlier call to Wike should have visit psychiatric evaluation for his mental status and save the state unwarranted embarrassment.

“This is the first time in the history of Nigeria that the governor of a state will openly accuse the nation’s number one policeman of plotting to kill him.

“Wike claims he is a lawyer and you would expect such a person to head to court to bring the police boss to justice if he has facts and proof to get conviction.

“Accusing the Police IG of attempted murder is a serious offence, more so coming from a governor, who has always promoted violence, including getting into office on the bloods of innocent people.

“In the usual manner of not thinking before talking, Wike does not know the dangerous implication of his accusations. The irresponsible action of the governor is capable of inciting Rivers people against the police and throwing the state into another round of crisis.

“I hope very soon, Wike does not start raising his own private army of gangsters and cultists to guard him since he no longer trusts the police to do the job of protecting him.

“As Rivers people, we will not allow this to happen. Our state has suffered so much from the incompetence of Wike. We shall rise up and protect the dignity of our people. We are known for being intelligent and decent but our clownish governor wants to throw all that away, we shall resist it,” he maintained.
