Governors Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta), Nyesom Wike (Rivers) and Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom), Monday, expressed their resolve to tackle the problem of insecurity around oil facilities in their respective states.
The trio who met in Asaba, Delta State, said they will revive the docile Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Edo and Delta, BRACED, Commission.
Briefing journalists after a closed door meeting, Governor Emmanuel, said: “We just came together to discuss few economic issues and how we can revive the BRACED Commission. Also, we looked at how we can fortify security network, especially now that the oil prices are a little bit epileptic, we need to make sure that we maintain oil production.
“So, we are looking at how we can form that unity and see how we can tackle the problem of insecurity to maintain that level of oil production without necessarily jeopardizing our responsibilities to our people.”
He stated that the BRACED commission was a good economic platform for the entire people of the region.
He said: “The commission is to look at areas of common economic interest so that we can also foster economic growth in the region. The BRACED commission is a vision we don’t want to abandon. This meeting was purely on economic and security and not political.”
On whether the meeting has political undertone, he said: “We could not have come here to discuss politics, you know our party is running now on a turbo cylinder. If it is politics, we will go to our party headquarters. We did not also discuss restructuring, when we hold the next meeting, if we discuss it, I will let you know.”
