Sacked Rivers Chairmen: CTC jittery, ask CJN to halt Appeal hearing

…As Court adjourns to November 6

Justice Dongbam Mensen of a 3-man Special Appeal panel set up to entertain petitions on the sacked local government council chairmen elected on the platform of All Progressives Congress, APC, during the administration of former Governor Chibuike Amaechi in 2015 has adjourned further sitting to November 6.

Justice Mensen, Wednesday, ordered that the 5th and 6th defendants who are the Inspector-General of Police and the Director, Department of State Services, DSS, be served the court processes before the adjourned date.

The sacked council chairmen, in a suit with number CA/338/2016, before the Appeal Court, had challenged their sack by  a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt in July 2015.

Meanwhile palpable fear has gripped the local government council caretaker committee chairmen in the state, on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as they are now calling on the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen and the National Judicial Council to stop the special panel from going ahead with its proceedings.

The chairmen noted that the issues before the panel were matters already before the Supreme Court

Speaking for the chairmen, Caretaker Committee Chairman, Ogba  /Egbema /Ndoni Local Government Area, Barr. Osi Olisa, said the Appeal Court should allow the matter run to its logical end at the Supreme Court before entertaining the appeal by the sacked APC chairmen.
