Kaduna: Primary, secondary pupils protest El-Rufai move to sack teachers

Primary and secondary school students around Sabon Tasha, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Tuesday, took to the streets in protest against the State Government over plans to sack thousands of teachers.

Governor Nasir el-Rufia had earlier declared that he would replace over 21, 000 teachers who failed the competency test recently conducted by the state government and replace them with new 25, 000.

Pupils of Local Education Authority, Kawo, Kaduna North Local Government area had on Monday started the protest.

This is coming barely a day after the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, in the state also issued a 14 day ultimatum to the government to rescind the decision or face industrial action.
