Refutal: Ubong Etuk is not a cultist- Family

Contrary to information circulating on the social media that  one Mr. Ubong Etuk who was among three persons allegedly murdered Monday night in Eket, Akwa Ibom State was a cultist, the family has come out to refute the claim, saying the deceased was a responsible family man and a husband.

According to a statement issued by Mr. Bassey Etuk, a member of the family and made available to Phspectator, the family said Ubong Etuk before his death was a Senior Safety Officer with Mercury Engineering and Construction Company (MEC), a servicing company with Exxon Mobile, Ibeno, Akwa Ibom State.

The statement while urging members of the public to discountenance the cultist tag given to the deceased, said the refutal has become necessary to uphold the family name  and to set the records straight.

While expressing shock at the demise of their brother, the family said the incident has brought sorrow and untold hardship to the family he left behind.

The family while calling on the Nigeria Police Force to expedite action and bring all the perpetrators of the crime to book, advised newsmen and bloggers to always cross-check their facts before going to town with it.

Earlier, it was reported that  Mr. Ubong Etuk was gruesomely murdered by a rival cult group after it was alleged that he belonged  to one of the warring  groups.

It was gathered that the two groups, Vikings Confraternity and Black Axe have been after one another for the past three months before the weekend clash that allegedly started in a motel at Afaha Uqua Eket.

One was said to have been killed at Liverpool Road, another in Uqua Village, while the third person was killed at a sit-out at Atai Ndon Village, all in Eket.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Odiko MacDon, who confirmed the incident, urged members of the public to go about their normal businesses without fear as the Police are on top of the situation.
