Benue Governor, Ortom officially defects to PDP

Barely one day after 15 senators dumped the All Progressives Congress, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has officially announced his resignation from the APC.

His resignation was contained in a Statement circulated to newsmen today by his Chief Press Secretary, Tever Akase.

Ortom, according to the statement, has now joined the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Earlier today,  a coalition of Benue youths had blocked Governor Ortom from attending a scheduled meeting with the All Progressives Congress, APC, National leadership in Abuja.

They held placards which read “Ortom don’t go back to APC,” “We don’t have land to donate for ranching,” “APC is Miyetti party,” Our farms are not for cows,” You must leave APC,” Ortom is our party, ” and “2019: On Ortom we stand.”

The development came barely nine days after the governor announced that the ruling party had given him a red card.

Ortom, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, had explained that, “As for party, I’ve been given the red card and I’m now outside the pitch. So, if I have been given the red card and I’m standing outside, that means I’m a free man.”
