Rivers: IGP team nabs 12 criminals

Operatives of the Inspector General Police, IGP, Monitoring Unit in Rivers State and the  Police Intelligence Unit, have busted criminal hideouts in Rivers State, arresting  no fewer than 12 suspects terrorising parts of the state.

The IGP team invaded a hideout where an armed robbery gang operates from in Aluu Community, Ikwerre Local Government Area, LGA, of the state and arrested seven suspects.

While the Police Intelligence Unit also arrested five armed robbery suspects following an attack on the property of the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority in Isiokpo in Ikwerre LGA of the state.

The suspects were paraded  yesterday, in Port Harcourt.

While parading the suspects, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, in charge of the IGP team, Mr. Benneth Igwe, said the team got information of the hideout through its intelligence network.

He further noted that the bandits had engaged the Police in a gun battle, but that the Police overpowered them  and apprehended the suspects.

“During the exchange of gunfire, the armed robbers were humbled by the superior fire power of the men of the unit, and seven of the robbers were arrested while others escaped with bullet wounds.”

According to Igwe, one Pump Action gun and locally made pistol were recovered from the hoodlums, noting that investigations are on to get other members of the gang arrested.
