The Chairman Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), has said that Senate President Bukola Saraki, can be impeached by two-thirds of Senators present at a meeting in the Senate.
Sagay who stated this yesterday said, “Nevertheless, for him to be removed, they need two-thirds, not of the Senate, but of those present and voting at a meeting, Sagay said at a workshop organized by PACAC.
“It doesn’t have to be everybody. It’s those who happen to be there. Once they meet the quorum of one-third, and he is there, he can be removed by two-thirds of that one-third.
“He got there because he was in APC, even though he got there by subterfuge, which is typical of him. He got there in a cheeky, fraudulent manner.
An APC Senator is promising that Senators will impeach the Senate President if the Senate reconvenes. “There’s a good likelihood there will be articles of impeachment” brought against Saraki, he said Thursday night.
Meanwhile, PDP Senators have debunked plans to force impeachment vote against President Muhammadu Buhari as alleged by some APC leaders.
The Senator representing Bauchi Central and Chairman, Senate Committee on Navy, Isah Hamma Misau, has come out to debunk the claim made in Uyo on Wednesday by Bola Tinubu, that the National Assembly was planning to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari.
” We, members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Senate, have no plan to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari. There is no need for that process and we are not contemplating it. Our focus right now is to defend democracy and its institutions, fight for enthronement of rule of law, independence of the legislature and the judiciary and ensuring good governance.
” I am surprised that a politician of Tinubu’s caliber will be playing politics with a serious issue like the impeachment of the President of the country just because he wanted to catch the attention of a crowd.
