Rivers council boss cries out over insecurity

Flowing the recent spate of killings and gunmen attack that has rocked  Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, chairman of the council, Mr. Samuel Nwanosike, has lamented that his local government is under the siege of criminals.

Nwanosike, speaking at the council headquarters in Isiokpo, yesterday, pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari to order the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to make deployment to save the worsening security situation in the area.

He stated that the same way the president ordered for increased security in Zamfara and other northern states under the threat of Boko Haram, he should do same to his council.

The LGA chair, who identified the criminals allegedly terrorising the area as Schoolboy, and Gunboat among others, said the gang has killed many persons in the area and destroyed several property.

He said the gang carries out kidnap activities on Omerelu-Imo State Road, Apani-Ubima, Elele-Isiokpo, and has become a terrorist group.

However, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the area, Mr. Bestman Amadi while reacting to the chairman’s alarm urged him to resign as he has failed in his responsibility of providing maximum security for the area.

Recall that just at the weekend the younger brother of an APC lawmaker in the state was kidnapped and murdered in the area.
