FG to probe UPTH over alleged misappropriation of N950 million COVID-19 fund

The federal government has threatened to investigate the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) over an alleged misappropriation of N950,000,000 COVID-19 intervention fund

Minister of Budget and National Planning, Clem Agba,  made the disclosure during an unscheduled visit to the hospital last week, after expressing disappointment over the state of its isolation centre.

However, Chief Medical Director of UPTH, Prof. Henry Ugboma, in statement on Sunday, denied the allegation, adding that there was no room for misappropriation as the contract was awarded to a reputable firm.

He stated that it was unfortunate the minister visited when the isolation centre was undergoing decontamination in preparation for cases of the new Omicron corona virus variant.

That, he said, was the reason they removed all equipments in the centre to prevent them from getting damaged.

He added that all the necessary equipments, including ventilators and monitors were bought, and that the hospital even did more than the money it received.
