The Rivers State chapter of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs has condemned in strong terms, the killing of two Muslim faithful at Oyigbo central mosque by unknown gunmen at the weekend.

The attack  caused panic in the area as residents  woke up to hear the shocking news.

Speaking to journalists, the Vice President General, Supreme Court for Islamic Affairs, Rivers State Chapter, Alhaji Nasir Uhor said, “some-yet-to-be-identified gunmen shot sporadically into Oyigbo central mosque along Afam road in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State killing two Muslim worshippers.

“Each time there is an election, faceless gunmen use to kill muslims to discourage them from voting. In 2011, 2015 and now 2019, same attacks have repeated. Even at the mosque on Bonny street in the Old Port Harcourt township, assailants invaded the mosque early this month living many Muslim worshippers injured.

“We will no longer tolerate such attacks on our brethren anymore. Enough is enough.

“We call on security agents to live up to their responsibilities and not only fish out the perpetrators but should also ensure an end to this”.

He said the deceased had been deposited in an undisclosed mortuary through the aid of the police.

The police was yet to react to the incident at the time of this report.
