Rivers Guber Election: Panel’s outcome will be pleasing to Rivers people – INEC

By: Admin

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has allayed the fears of Rivers State voters over the suspension of the result collation and declaration of the March 9 gubernatorial and state house of assembly elections, saying whatever decision reached would be for the benefit of the people.

INEC, on Sunday, suspended result collation citing  safety concerns for its staff.

Head of the commission’s media and publicity, Festus Okoye, who spoke on a live television programme  on Monday said that the commission will reach a decision that will be in the interest of Rivers people.

Okoye said that the decision to go back and conduct elections in Rivers state has to be based on fact, adding that supplementary elections will take place in some wards where violence erupted.

Already INEC’s decision to suspend the process is causing uproar in the state with political gladiators calling for the conclusion of the process.
