Rivers: Protest in Igwuruta as OSPAC kills tipper driver

There was uneasy calm in  Igwuruta in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers on Monday evening following the killing of one Eze Wali by men of a local vigilante group known as OSPAC personnel.

Wali was said to have worked as a tipper driver before his death.

OSPAC which operates in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area was inaugurated by the local government chairman of Ikwerre local government, Samuel Nwanosike few days ago to tackle the rising criminality in the area which has seen businesses close down with hundreds of lives equally lost.

The deceased was accused of being a cultist by the security personnel who stormed the area in search of cultists but his relatives have disagreed.

According to a brother of the deceased, “OSPAC entered our farm road residence and saw Wali sitting in front of his house. They asked him to follow them but he refused, telling them that he was the landlord.

“They tried to force him but he refused. They shot him and arrested two other persons but abandoned them at Airport roundabout and fled”

The incident forced residents to protest in the community.

They also urged the government to curtail the excesses of the security outfit.

The police in Rivers State was yet to comment on the matter at the time of this report.
