Sex-for-grades: Rivers varsity provide hotlines for students

Following the spate of sexual harassment of female students by lecturers in universities around the country, management of the Rivers State University, RSU, has provided a hotline for students to report any incident of sexual harassment by their lecturers in the university.

This is even as the Rivers State House of Assembly has said that it will give all legislative backing to institutions in the state to ensure the issue of sex-for-grades is not replicated in the state.

 House committee chairman on Education, Hon Christian Ahiakwo when the committee paid a visit to school as part of its oversight function, commended the authority of the institution for providing hot line to forstal any occurrence.

He also expressed excitement over the judicious use of the funds appropriated to the institution.

 Ahiakwo who  represents Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni constituency 1 in the assembly, commended the  State Governor, Nyesom Wike over the modern facilities executed in the institution and promised that the assembly will not relent in making the university a first class university in the nation.

Also speaking,  Chief Whip of the house, Evans Bipi who was part of the committee advised the management to ensure that issues of cult-related activities and insecurity affecting the University is addressed.

Bipi also commended the authorities of the institution for the effective management of appropriated funds allocated to the institution.

Responding, the acting Vice Chancellor, Opuenebo Owei  said the management will not relent in ensuring the security situation of the institution is addressed.

The Acting VC also said the management has made available a hot line to enable students report any case of sexual harassment to the management of the institution for proper investigation.
