Sex-for-grades: Rivers Assembly to go hard on institutions

The Rivers State House of Assembly has charged the House Committee on Education to be more proactive in tackling cases of sexual harassment by lecturers on students in institutions across the state.

Speaker  of  the assembly, Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani who made the charge on the floor of the house on Thursday said the committee must reach out to institutions in the state and warn them to stay away from acts that will be inimical to students in the state.

He urged the committee to beam its searchlight to forestall such acts in the state.

The speaker said the committee must reach out and defend the girl-child and males in institutions across the state.

Earlier in the week, the committee led by its chairman, Christian Ahiakwo had visited the state owned Rivers State University on oversight functions where it assured the school of the assembly’s preparedness to put in place legislative framework to curb sexual harassment of students by lecturers.
