RVHA stops NURTW from collecting levies from commercial drivers

The Rivers State House of Assembly Committee on Transport ordered the National Union of Road Transport Workers Union, NURTW, in the state  to stop the collection of all levies from transporters in the state.

The house committee said the ban is pending the outcome of a petition before the house.

Three unions, Rivers Transport and Investment Corporation, Rivers Drivers Transport Corporative Union and Self Employed and Commercial Drivers Association had petitioned the House Committee on Transport over alleged extortion of its members by the NURTW.

Chairman, House Committee on Transport, Prince Ngbor directed all parties to maintain status-quo till investigation on the matter is concluded.

Prince Ngbor  further said that the chairman, Rivers State Internal Revenue Service – RIRS, Adoage Norteh who was absent from the hearing due to other official engagements, will appear on a later date to clear the air on multiple taxations as claimed by the petitioners.
