Edo 2020: RSG task athletes to emerge top

As the National Sports Festival gets underway in Edo State, Rivers State Government has tasked athletes representing the state at the fiesta to go for the first position.

Commissioner for Sports in the state, Hon. Boma Iyaye said this while addressing the athletes.

According to him, “Rivers State is tired of the second position, so anything short of the first position will be unacceptable. We don’t want to come second. Come first and if you don’t see the hand of the governor, don’t greet me again. You saw what the governor did to Burna Boy because he came first. Governor blessed him because he came tops. So do your best and come tops,” the Commissioner said.

Boma Iyaye assured Team Rivers that on the part of the government, the best would also be done.

Iyaye also said that all necessary incentives and motivations have been put in place to boost the performance of the athletes at the sports fiesta.

He said that it is left for the athletes to prove themselves in Edo State.

“The only way you can reciprocate the gesture is to come tops”.

”I will make sure the governor recognizes every one of you when you come first. But if you go there with a double mind, there is no way you can make it,” Iyaye said.

The Commissioner promised to join the athletes in Benin City very soon.

The 20th National Sports Festival is fixed for April 2-15, 2021 in Benin City.
