Four corpses recovered from Etche river after OSPAC killings

Four bodies have been reportedly recovered from Otamirioche River in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State after a vigilante group, ONELGA Security and Advisory Planning Committee (OSPAC), allegedly invaded Okomoko community in the Area killing at least five persons.

The bodies were said to have been dumped in the River by the rampaging security group after the dastardly act.

Community sources said the vigilante group invaded the community around 9:31 pm on Saturday, shooting sporadically leading to three deaths.

They added that a woman was also hit in the eye by a stray bullet while many others sustained several degrees of injuries.

One of the victims of the killing is a trader popularly known as Dagogo Nwalozie.

Another source disclosed that the recovery of the bodies from the river sparked mild protests as the community youths brandished Dane guns and machetes, threatening to retaliate the killings.

Sources said that the community is one of the most peaceful in the LGA, adding that the attack on the community was unwarranted.

It was also gathered that the community leadership on Sunday summoned all the villages and urged them to remain calm pending when findings will be concluded in the matter.

However, youths in the community have expressed anger over the killing despite the assurances by the community elders of their plans to get to the root of the matter.

They are blaming the council chairman, Obinna Anyanwu who reportedly invited the security group into the community.

However, the Rivers State Police Command is yet to clarify issues sorrunding the incident.
