By: Felix Ikpotor

Following the spate of killings and abduction by suspected cultists and hoodlums that have rocked Opuoko community in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, indigenes of the area are now calling on the state governor, Chief Nyesom Wike and others  to intervene and forstal further shedding of blood and destruction of properties in the community.

The people also call on national and state lawmakers from the area, the council chairman, Elder Lahteh Loolo to intervene and save the community from extinction.

The call was made on behalf of the community by a group known as Opuoko Leaders Forum during a chat with journalists in Port Harcourt.

Coordinator of the group, Evangelist Daeledum Gboelo while speaking with journalist said the group is saddened by the spate of killings and abductions in the community.

He said: “ It is with sadness that Opuoko Leaders Forum gather today to lament the spate of killings that have bedeviled the community and to call on the government both at federal, state, local levels and all security agencies to intervene and save the community from the killings”.

The group lamented that the killings in the community has continued unabated and particularly condemned the Easter invasion by the suspected gunmen.

“While we are still mourning previous killings, on Good Friday there was another invasion were persons were killed and also abducted. Also on Easter Sunday, there was an invasion leading to the death of two persons and three others abducted” he said.

The group said at present, no one knows the whereabouts of those abducted, stressing that the people are now living in fear while several persons have fled the community.

Wondering why no one has either been arrested or prosecuted since the killings started, it also demanded for a security post to be established in the community.
