COVID-19: Degema Chairman orders closure of hotel

The Executive Chairman of Degema Local Government Area, Dr. Tony Philmoore has ordered the immediate closure of Goddex Hotel in Degema, Headquarters of the local government area for 21 days.

According to a statement issued by Office of the Press Secretary to the Council, the lockdown  is consequent upon the recent use of the hotel facility by a VIP who allegedly tested positive to COVID-19.

The index case who is said to be a frequent visitor to Degema Consulate had lodged in the hotel in his last visit.

The statement also directed the hotel staff to self isolate for 14 days while waiting for the state COVID-19 team to come take their samples for testing.

Also to Self Isolate are lodgers and other customers that recently used the hotel facilities or had close contact with the hotel staff.

Meanwhile the Executive Chairman has advised the hotel staff and the affected customers to call the state COVID-19 emergency numbers if they develop COVID-19 symptoms while in self isolation.

He further advised his constituents to obey all COVID-19 advisories by the state COVID-19 team and the NCDC.
