Aftermath of OPM vs Aluu clash: Wike bans CDC elections in Ikwerre, others

The Rivers State Government has suspended with immediate effect all Community Development Committee elections in Ikwerre Local Government and the remaining 22 Local Government Areas.

The suspension we learnt was prompted by the face-off between Apostle Gift Chibuzor Chinyere, the general overseer of the Omega Power Ministries, OPM, and proprietor of the OPM free hospital and the Aluu community in Ikwerre LGA..

Apostle Chinyere had on Sunday shut down the hospital following the alleged imposition of security levies on the facility by the Aluu Clan, sparking widespread condemnation.

However, the hospital was reopened after several interventions.

Paulinus Nsirim, Commissioner for Information and Communications in a statement said Local Government Chairmen and security agencies are hereby directed to ensure that the suspension is implemented to the letter.
