Lawmaker urges constituents to embrace community policing

The Senator representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District, Dr Barinada Mpigi has  called on people of his Senatorial District to take community policing as their responsibility.

Mpigi made the call when he donated operational vehicles to the Nigerian police force in the area and a utility vehicle to the Divisional Police Officer of Bori Division for his gallant and impactful performance.

The federal lawmaker said the issue of security should be the collective responsibility of everybody so as to support the security operatives to succeed.

“Security is not a one man business at all. In as much as the Governor is the Chief Security Officer of the State and the Local Government Chairman is the Chief security officer of the LGA, there must be a security bond amongst all of us, so that you can tell mister A, what you’re doing is bad though sometimes that gives us a bad name. I’ve been around the system, the truth is that we should not shy away. We must have to work together so any one you try and you decide to look at number of people in the area saying this is not good, please withdraw from that one. Give them what they want because they’re the people you wish to guide in the area”, he said.

Mpigi said the car gift to the DPO of Bori is his personal appreciation to him for the monumental job the DPO is doing in not only Bori division but the entire Senatorial District.

He urged the police force to strictly profile community policing nominees to ensure that criminal elements are not enlisted as such would be detrimental to the security of the area.

Responding on behalf of the police, the Area Commander of Eleme Police command ACP Martins Nwogoh said the vehicles given to them will help them to discharge their duties effectively.

ACP Nwogoh thanked Senator Mpigi for the gesture and urged him to continue to support the police to succeed in the fight against crime in the area.

“What you’ve done here today, I know notable individuals within our community would take a cue from you to support the police. We promise to continue to do our best and know we’ll surely win the war against crime”, he declared.

Also speaking, the Area Commander of Bori Area Command ACP Ekaette Archibong said the donation would encourage the force in its determination to ensure the peace and security of the area.

ACP Archibong stated that the car gift to the DPO of Bori is well deserved as he has demonstrated exceptional and dedicated commitment in the fight against crime and criminality in the area.

Meanwhile the Chairman of the Tai Local Government Council Dr Jacobson Nbina has appreciated donations made by Senator Barinada Mpigi in support of the security of the area.

Dr Nbina who was represented by the Leader of Tai Legislative Assembly Hon David Sunday described Senator Mpigi as a trail blazer and champion in the fight against crime in the state and urged him to continue to do more.

We all know that when it comes to peace and security it is the business of everyone. And the Distinguished Senator has always Championed whatever that would bring peace and welfare to his people and the Chairman is well pleased with that”, he said.

In his remarks, the Gbenemene of Tua-Tua Tai and spokesperson of the Supreme Council of Ogoni Traditional Rulers HRH Mene Samuel Nne Commended the lawmaker for continuing to justify the trust reposed in him by the people of the area.
