By: Emmanuel Nlewedum

The people of Akabuka in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area of Rivers State have raised the alarm over fresh activities of suspected gunmen in the area following the submission of arms to security agencies by the OSPAC vigilante group.

A community source, Wisdom told newsmen that unknown gunmen stormed the community over the weekend killing a member of the OSPAC vigilante, identified simply as Ocheoye before kidnapping a lady.

According to him, “the boys came to kidnap a lady in the community and in the process, they shot an OSPAC member. His name is Ocheoye from Obagi.

“This is what ONELGA people have been saying, that once the OSPAC people drop their guns, these boys will come out from their hiding places to start terrorizing the area.

“I think the IGP will be happy with this news, because I know if the OSPAC guys didn’t submit their guns these guys wouldn’t have resurfaced”.

In the same vein, the Chairman of Ibaa Security and Peace Advisory Committee (IBISPAC), Ohaka Obisike has expressed worry that the criminal elements has already started regrouping following the order by the IGP to retrieve arms from local vigilante groups.

He called for urgent intervention of the state and federal government to reverse the decision of disarming the local vigilante groups.

“I call on the government and IGP to change their mind and allow local vigilante carry their guns because we cannot fight these boys who are armed, with bare hands”, he said.

He however, expressed readiness of the IBISPAC to improve their security intelligence.
