#ENDSARS: RIVCSO calls for expansion of commission of inquiry

By: Felix Ikpotor

Reactions are now trailing the panel of inquiry set up by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike to look into the activities of the disbanded Federal Anti-Robbery Squad, FSARS, in the state.

FSARS was disbanded by the federal government following series of protest by youths and civil society groups in the country.

Mr Enefaa Goergewill, who is the chairman of Rivers State Civil Society Organisations, RIVSCO,  and a major player in the #EndSARS Protest faulted the exclusion of some major actors in the composition of the Justice U. Uriri led panel of inquiry.

Mr Goergewill who commended the governor for responding to one of the demands of the protesters by constituting the panel of inquiry into police brutality in the state, called on the governor to reconstitute or expand the committee to accommodate key players in the protest.

“RIVSCO calls on the governor to reconstitute or expand the panel on the following ground. One, there is no key participant of the Port Harcourt ENDSARS protest that is part of the commission of inquiry. Two, Rivers State government did not follow Federal Government directive on the members that ought to be on the commission,” he said.

Continuing, he said: “there ought to be two youth representatives and not one. Most members of the committee are persons who enjoy close relationship with the Rivers State government and a particular political party as such the outcome of the commission may not be neutral or meets public expectations”.

The group further called on security agencies in the state to arrest and prosecute all thugs and hoodlums who last Wednesday, went about destroying public and private properties and specifically condemned the attack on police stations and officers in the state.
