I only asked security agencies to fish out IPOB members in Oyigbo– Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has denied that he ordered the military into Oyigbo Local Government.

The area has been on  24 hours curfew  following the killing of security officers and burning of police stations in the area for the past 11 days.

Residents of the area  have recounted tales of human rights abuses, killings and wanton destruction of properties in the LGA by the military since the curfew was imposed.

The governor  who in a statewide broadcast last week, urged security agents to go after members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, whom he accused of being behind the killing of security agencies in the area denied ordering soldiers into the LGA.

He said he only ordered security agencies to fish out IPOB members but not soldiers.

The governor spoke during a live interview in Port Harcourt on Monday.

He also denied saying that Stanley Mgbere who led a protest in Onne and who was declared wanted by his administration for leading an arson in the community is a member of IPOB.

He said Mgbere used IPOB to burn down the house of the traditional ruler in Onne.
