Oyigbo killings: Ohanaeze to hold Wike, Nnamdi Kanu responsible

By:  Admin

Leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has threatened that the group would hold the leader of proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike responsible for what it described as “Genocide and Ethnic Cleansing in Oyigbo, Rivers State.

They also called for the suspension of military actions in the area in the next 48 hours.

The group in a statement signed by its President-General and Secretary-General; Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and Mazi Okwu Nnabuike said that it will not watch and keep quiet on what it tagged the atrocities, gruesome murders and perpetual enslavement  onf the peace loving Igbos of Oyigbo by security forces.

The group who vowed to ensure that those responsible for the “Oyigbo Genocide” face justice said “Wike as Chief Security officer of Rivers State will surely account for the loss of lives and brutalities  in the near future as international human rights groups and activists are gathering information and evidences of genocidal violence escalating in Oyigbo Rivers State.”

OYC which  opposed the heavy military actions and onslaughts against the people which had continuous abused the fundamental human rights of residents said that denying the people access to food, adequate medicare, water, in the bid for Rivers State Government to unleash State machinery against Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is an indication of an insensitive government.

The statement reads further: “OYC had studied keenly the developments, buildups scenarios of Obigbo Massacres, the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu’s utterances and claims that he worked and installed Barr. Nyesom Wike as Governor Rivers State is an affirmative evidence that IPOB activities and protests in Port Harcourt had been peaceful in the last 3 years without qualms.

“We had expected that Governor Nyesom Wike to respond to these allegations and pronouncements of Nnamdi Kanu installing him as Rivers State Governor.

“He should be man enough to clear his name and explain why it took Rivers State Government three years to proscribe the activities of IPOB in Rivers State. Hope it’s not relationship gone sour? Wike should emulate Asari Dokubo and explain if there was any relationship with Nnamdi Kanu in the past, and stop shifting responsibility to his benefactor and Predecessor (RT Hon Chibuike Amaechi).”

OYC, while accusing the leader of the IPOB of stoking the fire in Oyigbo said “Nnamdi Kanu’s ENDSARS video and audio clips are enough evidences indicting him of inciting violence escalating in Oyigbo Rivers State, with unimaginable deaths and inhumane conditions that Igbo suffers in Oyigbo indirectly linked him to ethnic cleansing and IPOB’s placing 100m ransom booty on Governor Wike.

“It’s a clear deviation from peaceful approach to self-determination and non-violent stance of Biafra agitation. Igbo Youths hold both sides responsible for genocide and violence escalating in Oyigbo.”

OYC while calling for immediate commencement of ceasefire talks between Governor Nyesom Wike and IPOB Leader claimed that there’s established evidence that if both sides should stop this show of forces, Igbos of Oyigbo will breathe fresh air and normalcy will return immediately.

“We are confident that both sides will surely accept this pleading of Igbo Youth Leadership in the interests of peace, as venue will surely be communicated to both sides.

“When two elephants fights, the grasses suffer, when two friends fights, Oyigbo people suffers. Let there be suspension of military actions in Oyigbo in the next 48hrs, as we are engaging religious leaders, former presidents and heads of state to join OYC to pressurize both Governor Wike and Nnamdi Kanu for a peaceful talks,” it added.
