By: Felix Ikpotor

One Mrs Love Nwanyanwu, a mother of six has petitioned the Rivers State Police Command over an attempted murder by her brother-in-law, Blackson Nwanyanwu.

Blackson Nwanyanwu is the leader of Etche Legislative Assembly in Etche local government area of the state.

In a petition submitted at the Human Rights Desk of the State Police Command, Mrs Nwanyanwu said the lawmaker and three others attempted to kill her on Sunday at her home in Omualu, Etche Local Government Area.

The petitioner  had alleged in a video that the lawmaker, who is a brother to her husband, teamed up with the husband’s siblings and family to accuse her of witchcraft and other crimes in the family.

Mrs Nwanyanwu who spoke with newsmen on Tuesday called on the law enforcement agencies to ensure that the councilor who represents Ward 12 in the Etche Legislative Assembly does not go unpunished.

Also, speaking on the matter, the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign called on the Rivers State Police Command to conduct a thorough investigation into the alleged physical assault on the petitioner.

According to Mrs Nwanyanwu, “I overheard my husband brother who is a councilor in Etche telling his family that I am a witch and more. They all descended on me, he hit me with a chair and they beat me up.

“I call on people to help me fight for Justice as I am seeking for justice. They left me heavily injured.”

Wisdom Nwanyanwu, son of the petition who also confirmed the incident via his facebook post called on the people of Etche not to allow the manhandling of his mother by the lawmaker go in vain.

The lawmaker has denied assaulting the woman and has issued a statement threatening a lawsuit against her and whoever is connected to the reported assault, stressing that he has never set his eyes on her for a forthnight now.

He denied ever sanctioning or witnessing the assault on the woman and further wondered why people are interested in robing him into the matter..

The human right centre however in a statement said only a thorough investigation would unravel the truth and anybody found culpable should be made to face the law.

It added that no citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is above the law.
