Rivers LGA polls: Hon Cookey-Gam, Oju-Kienmie promise better deals for Opobo/Nkoro

Ahead of the April 17, 2021 local council polls in Rivers State, chairmanship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Opobo/Nkoro local government area, Honourable Enyiada Cookey-Gam has assured people of the area of total transformation if elected into office.

Cookey-Gam who spoke to reporters in Port Harcourt, also expressed hope in the ability of the State Electoral Commission (RSIEC) to conduct a free, fair and credible election.

The chairmanship candidate said he would consolidate on the security and peace in the area which noted is the bedrock for any development to strive, work more on human capacity development with more emphasis on infrastructure.

He called on people of the area to come out in their numbers on election day and vote for all candidates of the party.

Also speaking, the Vice Chairmanship candidate, Madam Angela Anthony Oju-Kienmie promised to work in synergy with the chairman in repositioning the council and delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.

Madam Oju-Kienmie who is also a girl-child advocate said she will in conjunction with the chairman carryout programmes that would empower the women and girls.

She said,“ as a girl-child advocate I will be actively involved in activities that would empower the girls as well as the boys. We know that girls are much more vulnerable in the society as well as the women as the United Nations have over the years tried to salvage the lives of women that are vulnerable as a result of abuse, domestic violence etc”.

She added that entrepreneurial skills development, awareness campaign for the girls, youths and women to change their mindset and standard of living would be aggressively carried out.

She used the medium to thank the State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike for giving women the opportunity to aspire to occupy sensitive positions in the state and all party leaders and supporters for trusting in them.

The Vice-Chairmanship candidate charged people of Opobo/Nkoro to rally round  them and be ready to work with them for the betterment of the area.
