Rivers NYCN gets new chairman, as Ihunwo kicks

National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Rivers State chapter has elected a new chairman.

He is Comrade Nwisabari Samuel Bani.

He was elected at an elective congress of the apex youth body held on Sunday in Kula, Akuku-Toru local government area of Rivers State and supervised by the National President of NYCN, Ambassador Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, National Observers, officials of the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, Office of the Special Adviser on Youths Affairs to the President, security agencies and other independent observers.

Speaking after the election, Chairman-Elect, Comrade Nwisabari Samuel Bani assured that the value system of the NYCN would be restored and maintained for the overall development of Rivers youths.

“I am elated that all Rivers youths have bestowed hope and trust in me and given me the opportunity to serve them in this capacity. I want to assure all Rivers youths that this opportunity will not be misused. I am calling on all aspirants who didn’t scale through to join me in a round table so we can discuss on strategies to drive Rivers Youths forward,” he said.

He added: “the task is enormous but I will advise Rivers youths to remain peaceful and create an enabling environment for investors to come”.

Also speaking, Coordinator, of the 23 Local Governments Coordinators, Comrade Kingsley Dimkpa while promising to give the new executive all the needed support to succeed, also expressed the hope that the new executives would bring all Rivers youth together.

“We are very happy that election was conducted devoid of any fraud, malpractices and we are all happy about it. We have long expected this election to take place to deliver good leadership to youths of the state and we believe that in less than no time the Chairman would harness all Rivers youths and chart a way forward,” he said.

On his part, an independent election observer, Chief Gani Topba said the election was free and fair and charged the new executives not to disappoint those who have elected them.

“I saw the process and it was transparent and people voted their minds. What happened today has sent a different message to Nigeria, Rivers people and Ogoniland as the emergence of Bani has brought glory to Ogoniland. On behalf of the Ogoni people I want to thank the electorates for voting this new executives and charged the leadership to support the security agencies in curbing insecurity in the state.

Meanwhile, Amb Chijioke Ihunwo has said that Sukubo has no right to conduct election in Rivers State as his tenure is still running and would elapse in 2023.

He spoke to newsmen on Monday in Port Harcourt.

Ihunwo said: “Why did he sneak the election to Kula if he is doing the right thing. The Rivers State Government is not even aware and were not present at the election”

“He is not on ground even at the national, if not why did the ministry of Niger Delta not recognize him during the NDDC commissioning”

“He wants to cause crisis in the State. He claims to be National President, yet no one has seen him on national television discussing national issues”

“Our tenure still stands, it will elapse in 2023, then we will conduct elections”.

The youth leader called on security agencies to be at alert in order to forstal any breakdown of law and order in the country.
