Again, tanker falls off Aleto bridge on East-West Road

By: Admin

A tanker loaded with product on Sunday fell from Aleto bridge into the Aleto river on the Eleme axis of the East/West road in Rivers State as a result of the dilapidated state of the bridge.

The incident also threw the entire stretch of the road into serious gridlock.

PHSpectator reports that several tankers have fallen off the bridge in the past.

Reacting to the development, President of Ogoni Youths Federation, Legborsi Yamaabana said it is unfair that Federal Government has refused to fix the road despite the yarning of the people.

‘For the records, this road is at the epicenter of Nigeria’s Oil and Gas industry, linking the Port Harcourt Refinery Company, Indorama Eleme Petrochemicals, Notore Fertilizer Company, two Sea ports and over 200 oil and gas companies in the Onne Oil & Gas free Zone.

“May we use this ugly opportunity to once again call on the Federal Government to urgently mobilize the contractor handling the road, the Reynolds Construction Company Limited (RCC) back to site to urgently fix the entire length of the road.

” Contrary to our plea and advise, the operational hitch and the resultant public relations crisis that would in turn affect the overall execution and delivery of the soon to commence rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt Refinery Company (PHRC) project may cost the Federal Government more to remedy. Rehabilitated the East West road before the refinery”.
