Scores fear killed, armored vehicle burnt in Orlu as hoodlums battle security agents

Scores of persons including six hoodlums and one police officer were reportedly killed in fierce gun battle between hoodlums and security agencies in Orlu town, Orlu local government area of Imo State,  yesterday evening.

It was gathered that attacks on police formation in the area began about 1 pm Thursday, when hoodlums in several convoys attacked a police armored vehicle at Umuna junction and set it ablaze.

Residents of the area said that a military reinforcement later arrived from Owerri which engaged the hoodlums, killing six of them.

The residents said gunshots rented the air throughout the night till Friday morning as security agencies continued to repel the attacks.

Meanwhile, security agents have restricted movements in several areas of the town.

Early on Friday morning, no movement was observed from Nkwi-Eto to Banna junction in Orlu.

Residents of the area also stayed indoors as gunshots continue to rent the air.
