Rivers Neighborhood Watch boss wants states to manage security architecture

Director  General of the Rivers State Neighborhood Watch and Safety Agency Dr. Uche Mike Chukwuma has advocated for the decentralisation of security in the country as a means of tackling the ever rising insecurity in the nation.

He also described the insecurity in the country as a multidimensional issue as it is prevalent both at the national and state level.

Chukwuma who made the observation in an interview with journalists advised the government to properly utilize intelligence information obtained from the public as part of effort to curb the menace.

“The insecurity issue in the country is multidimensional and we have the issues at the federal level, we have those at the state level.

“But I believe that those at the national level should be able to listen to the voices of those they think as commoners and then see how they would harness the information that come to them and they manage them properly for the interest of the generality of the society.

“For now, nobody is comfortable at the level of insecurity in the country, generally speaking”

He also called for the decentralization of power noting that centralization slows down decisions making.

“A situation where command flows from Abuja, centrally from Abuja and trickles down to the various states and compliance slowly goes back and you not knowing what they are thinking about in Abuja is affecting a lot of decisions at the local and state levels. So they should allow states to manage their policing architecture so as to be able to manage internal security of their states and their borders”
