Rivers guber: Nothing can stop Ogoni from contesting in 2023-Kobani

By: Emmanuel Nlewedum

As political parties prepare for the 2023 general elections, across the country, former secretary to  Rivers State Government, SSG, Hon. Kenneth Kobani has declared that nothing will stop the people of Ogoni from contesting the governorship of the state.

Kobani said this while addressing newsmen in Bori, headquarters of Khana local government area of Rivers State at the weekend.

He stated that the Ogoni people as bonafide citizens of Rivers State are ready to speak with one voice to achieve their long time struggle.

“The Ogoni struggle and the Ogoni movement is one that has taken time at various stages. What has happened in the past clearly shows that what we have in Ogoni today is a resurgence of unity.

“Ogonis on the move again, Ogoni is on the march again and Ogoni people know when something significant is about to happen.

“I said it because I know people can feel the course of things in this state and they know something very major is about to happen, that is why the Ogoni people has come out enmass to thank the governor for what he has done for us” he said.

Asked about the governorship position in Rivers State come 2023, the former SSG said; “The Ogoni people are part of Rivers State and they are entitled to aspire for any position they want because they are bonafide citizens of the highest extraction.

“Therefore nothing will stop any Ogoni man who wants to aspire” Kobani added.

He  went on to say, “politics is a game of numbers, you have to call and talk to other people, and you have to make sure that others agree with you and buy into whatever you are doing.

“So it’s not a question of you wanting something, you need other people. The Ogoni people need other ethnic groups and that is why it is absolutely important that the Ogonis continue to dialogue with all our brothers, the length and breathe of this state because when the time comes, it is sure.
