A true politician doesn’t make more enemies but friends – Abe

Former representative of Rivers South East Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Magnus Ngei Abe has said that in politics, a true politician is not the one that has the most number of enemies but the one that has most number of friends.

Abe made the declaration at the grand reception organized by the Ogoni ethnic nationality for Governor Nyesom Wike, held in Bori, Ogoni, Rivers State.

The Senator acknowledged that Nigeria as a  country is facing unique challenges which requires a unique kind of politics and good governance.

He said: “It requires the kind of politics where people can talk to each other across parties, across tribe, across religion. The kind of politics where people can work together to achieve things that can actually help the people”.

‘Your Excellency, today is not a day for politics but a day for the Ogoni people.

“I am here because I know that you have helped my people and you have respected them when they needed respect. And for that reason, not just because of the project you have done, but I have come here today because I know that my presence will make you happy, and it will make our people happy, and you will do well for them.

“There will be a day when we will talk more but today, we are gathered to thank your Excellency for what you have done for my people; you have done for us all”.

The Senator commended Governor Wike for the people oriented projects and the respect shown to Ogoni people, describing it as worthy of emulation.

“Whenever it comes to doing what is right, let us not shy away from it. What the governor has done on the Bori/Saakpenwa road is good, not only for the Ogoni people, but for Nigeria.

“The Bodo/Bonny road and the East west road which the federal government is building, will all be a major gateway for the economic growth of this land and we will benefit from it.

“I also want to thank you for all the Ogoni people you have brought into your government and given them an opportunity to serve. If Dr. Odili did not give me an opportunity, I would not be known today, that same opportunity you have given to others.

“Those you have called to serve, should do well and endeavour to serve you well and serve our people well. Anybody who helps the Ogoni people, the Ogoni people will appreciate and recognize him. It doesn’t matter what party you belong to. I thank you and God bless you”.
