Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri has enjoined the citizens of the state to go back to the farms as he is set to commission a 60-metric tons cassava, starch factory at Ebedebiri in Sagbama Local Government Area of the state.
Governor Diri, who was led an inspection of the factory by the state’s Commissioner for Agriculture, David Alagoa, urged them to take cassava cultivation seriously as the current production capacity of the people would not be enough to service the factory.
“With the capacity of this factory, the cassava production in Bayelsa alone will not be sufficient or enough hence, we are going to go into our neighbouring states of Delta and Rivers State for more Cassava. Indeed, Bayelsa is ready to go with this factory.”
He commended the immediate past administration for initiating the project as he expressed excitement to see that the project is ready for production.
While expressing satisfaction with the level of work done, he said: “This is an indication that our people have to go back to the farms as what we are producing now would not be enough for the factory. So, I call on all Bayelsans to be very serious with cassava farming and production.
“I hereby call on all Bayelsans to now shift our focus to Cassava farming and production because we have all the necessary tools and machine here as a factory for starch production.
“In this, we are talking about commercial farming and not subsistence farming which alone will create enormous wealth for our people as both Women and Youths are encouraged to go into production of Cassava. We will now get a date for formal commissioning after due consultation.”
