Rivers: Community thank Wike for reopening Oilmill Market

By: Admin

Council Chairman of Rumukwurusi Town, Chief Clifford Wali, has expressed his gratitude and that of the people of the community to Governor Nyesom Wike and the Rivers State Government for the reopening of Oil Mill Market.

The market which is of immense economic importance to its host community, Rumukwurusi, and also a major contributor to the growth and development of commerce in the state was shutdown in June last year  following the outbreak of COVID-19, and the attendant safety guidelines.

Speaking on the development, Wali also blamed the failure of traders and leaders of the market to comply with government directives on sanitation, street trading and tax remittance as other reasons the market remained shut even after the COVID-19 lockdown was lifted.

The  community chairman said both the traders and the entire people of Rumukwurusi have since strictly been adhering to the instructions of the Rivers State Government in a bid to avoid another shutdown.

“We will do all the government ask us to do just to make sure history does not repeat itself.”

Chief Clifford Wali also thanked the traders and the good people of Rumukwurusi for their patience and contributions, even as he promised to commence the allocation of shops at the new building now that the market has been reopened.
