East-West Road: Okrika council chairman backs protest by Ogonis

The Chairman of Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State, Akuro Tobin has joined other leaders of Rivers State  especially those affected by the deplorable condition of the Akpajo-Onne section of the East-West Road to speak up against Federal Government’s gross negligence.

Tobin applauded people of the area for taking the bold step in ensuring that section of the East-West road is constructed within record time.

People of Ogoni since Monday have been protesting the failure of the Federal Government to fix the Eleme axis of the road.

The protest has paralised activities of the over 400 companies operating in the Oil and Gas Free Trade Zone Authority.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Tobin lamented the total neglect of the Eleme section of the road by the Federal Government inspite of the huge economic importance of the road to the economy of the country.

He regretted the inability of the Federal Government to take advantage of the preliminary repair efforts initiated earlier by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike  which would have seen the complete repair of the road.

The council chairman maintained that he is in full support of the action taken by the people, insisting that they will only vacate the road if contractors are been mobilized to start actual construction works on that section of the road.
