Trans-Kalabari Road: “LCC won’t pay compensation to anyone digging fake graves on right-of-way”

Chairman of Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, Onengiyeofori George  has warned that Lubrik Construction Company (LCC) will not pay any compensation to persons digging fake graves along the right of way of the Trans-Kalabari Road Project.

Governor Nyesom Wike recently, flagged-off the construction of the road as part of activities marking his second year in office.

The council boss made the statement during a security meeting he held with chiefs, community heads, youth bodies and opinion leaders of Kalabari West Central Group at the council secretariat in Buguma.

George said: “the ‘Alignment E’ part of the Trans-Kalabari Road Project is largely beneficial to the Asari-Toru Local Government Area and as such the Council will do everything humanly possible to protect the smooth execution of the project in order to meet the 14 Months time bound of the road construction”.

He continued further that members of the communities should look beyond the immediate gains of the project, adding that the project when completed would connect the entire Kalabari West Central Group Communities to the upland for the very first time in history.

He warned that those indulging in the act to desist henceforth, while charging community leaders to profile names of families and individuals encouraging such acts.

Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the company, Hon. Orolosama Peter Amachree, who was in company with the Manager of Lubrik Construction Company, said that status quo remains and nothing has changed from the initial bargains, dealings and understanding between the communities and the company.

He however, insisted that graves of whatever kind was not part of the company’s understanding and therefore will not be considered as one.

In their separate speeches, the Amanyanabo of Minama, HRH King Iboroma Talibot Pokubo, the Amanyanabo of Omekweama, HRH King A. L. Apadikiari-Horsfall, and the Amanyanabo of Sangama, HRH King  D. K. Ebrelolomari all conveyed their unalloyed loyalty to the cause of the project and assured that the efforts taken particularly in Minama Community will be further strengthened to stop the act.

On his part, The Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Abalama Police Station, CSP Dennis Kpurugbara, who spoke on behalf of the security agencies in the area berated the act as barbaric and primitive, saying that the civility of the Kalabari people had long outlived such archaic thoughts.

The DPO  enjoined community leaders to take the message home to their subjects and to report suspicious persons to the security agencies.
