Four persons have been reportedly killed after a trailer conveying petroleum products rammed into a mini bus at the popular GVC junction along the Eleme axis of the East-West Road.
Eyewitnesses said that the bus which had eight persons in it, including the driver who was attempting to swerve the bus away from a pothole in the heavily dilapidated road, was badly compressed as a result of the accident.
The driver, who was said to have noticed the trailer very late, navigated only to head into a collision with it.
Three passengers, including the driver, were said to have lost their lives on the spot.
The eyewitnesses said a three-year old baby, whose guardian saw the impending disaster before it happened, was thrown out of the vehicle leading to the loss of her legs.
At the time of this report, the police and officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) had conveyed the bodies of the deceased to a morgue, as well as towed the damaged mini bus away from the bus stop.
PHSpectator reports that repair works are yet to begin on the Eleme section of the East-West Road weeks after youths and people of Ogoni ethnic nationality staged a week long protest to force government to fix the road.
