The Rivers State Police Command says it has arrested six persons in connection with the murder of a 400-level student of the Rivers State University, Chimela Derrick Osundu.
Public Relations Officer of the Command, Nnamdi Omoni, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued in Port Harcourt.
The victim, was alleged to be in possession of a locally-made pistol when his body was examined by the police, a discovery which made the police to describe the incident as cult related.
Although the victim’s mother, Josephine Amaechi, has refuted claims of her son being a cultist or being linked to cult related activities, the Rivers State Police Command however revealed that the suspects in custody were already providing useful information that would aid the quick and diligent resolution of the matter once investigations were concluded.
“At the end of our investigations, we will take it up from there. For now, six persons have been arrested, including the prime suspect who shot the boy.”
“We are saying that a locally-made pistol and some cartridges were found in his pubic region while undressing him before he was taken to the mortuary. The pistol was found in his pubic region in the presence of his brother,” Omoni said.
