You are the answer to Nigeria’s environmental issues, Publisher tells students

Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of the Port Harcourt Spectator Newspaper, Parry Saroh Benson has said that Biological Science Students are the answer to various environmental challenges facing Nigeria and should therefore think outside the box.

Benson who made the assertion while speaking as a Special Guest of Honour at the Maiden Submit of the National Association of Biological Students (NABBS), Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, urged the students to be solution providers and not add to the current environmental challenges facing the nation.

He said: “You have the answer to the numerous environmental challenges facing Nigeria. As biologists, your work cuts across a wide variety of sectors and through improve capacity which is why  you are today at this submit, you will be able to capture the industry. I want you to think outside the campus and by knowledge you have acquired become solution providers and not add to problems”.

Declaring the event open, Head, Department of Biology, Dr. Okorinama Wokoma called on the students to take advantage of the submit to learn new things through which they will excel in their choosen career.

Earlier in his address, President of the National Association of Biological Science Students, Gbaanei John Dumate said environmental challenges is one of the greatest problem facing Rivers people and Niger Deltans, therefore students should seek to provide solutions to the problems of the society.

“We must as a matter of urgency rally round ourselves to finding lasting solution to our enormous environmental challenges,” he said.

The event which had as its theme: “Environmental Sustainability; My Responsibility, Your Responsibility” was put up to create the necessary environmental awareness  and consciousness by educating the students on the health implications associated with environmental challenges.
