Cult clash: Rivers community gets 13-member Peace Committee

In a concerted effort to restore peace and promote united community that will drive development of the area,  Paramount Ruler of Ibaa and Obelle communities in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, Eze Wobodo Sunday-Jonah, has set up a 13-man peace and reconciliation committee in the community.

Sunday-Jonah made the pronouncement when he received in audience the leadership of Rio branch of Ogbakor-Ikwerre, who paid him a courtesy visit in his palace in Ibaa.

He charged the inaugurated peace committee headed by Chief Safari Chukwure to work out modalities that would foster lasting peace in the community and give level-playing field to all indigenes of the community in the discharge of their delicate assignments so that those who fled the community can return home.

The Nye-Nwe-Ali Ibaa/Obelle also tasked the committee to reach out to all the aggrieved persons, including those who contested the stool of the paramount ruler of Uvuahu Kingdom, for the sake of peace and development.

He gave the committee 21 days to submit its report.

The monarch while recounting the sufferings of Uvuahu Kingdom as a result of violent clashes, stressed the need for the committee to inform those concerned to abide by the decision of the government and court, and allow peace to reign just as he expressed commitment to ensure peace, unity and development in the communities.

Earlier, Secretary to the Rio branch of Ogbakor Ikwerre, Moses Amadi, who delivered the message of members of group, commended the Uvuahu monarch and expressed their readiness to support him just as they urged him to take the peace of Ibaa and Obelle seriously.
