Lorry crushes school children to death in Rivers

Tragedy struck in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital on Tuesday as two pupils returning from school were crushed to death by a lorry.

 The incident happened at the Abali Park Flyover in Mile One.

The pupils who were all males and said to be from same parents, and aged between 12-15 years were crushed beyond recognition as the tire of the lorry smashed their heads.

 Rivers State Commissioner for Transportation, Hon Osima Gina who confirmed the incident bemoaned the death of the pupils.

Gina, who spoke at the scene of the incident, said his attention was drawn to the incident few minutes after its occurrence.

According to him, the cause of the accident was not known due to circumstances surrendering it.

On the whereabouts of driver, he said he (driver) was in police custody to help in further investigation, adding: “the lifeless bodies of the victims have been deposited in the mortuary. The driver is with the police now”.

The lorry marked ‘DAF’, he said, was believed to have left the Warf area before the accident occurred.

The Tide learnt that the victims were all male from same parents.
