Refuse takes over Rivers community

Paramount ruler of Omokiri community, Aluu, in Ikwerre local government area of Rivers State, Hassan Walewa has called on the Rivers State Waste Management Agency, RIWAMA, to evacuate the heap of refuse that has become a health concern in the area.

Speaking with journalists in Port Harcourt, Walewa accused Bro. Felix Obuah , sole administrator of RIWAMA of negligence of the health hazards to the community and the need for immediate evacuation.

He said the community has made several appeals to RIWAMA which seems to have fallen on deaf ears, hence the need for media support.

He attributed some deaths in area to the abandonment of refuse on the streets.

“ For three months, RIWAMA has abandoned heaps of refuge that has blocked the roads in the community.

“From Omokiri, Omoike, Mbodo, the refuge have taken over the community.

“ We are calling on the Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike to come to our rescue before the hazards will kill more people in the community.

The agency was yet to react to the claims raised by the community leader  at press time.
