Rivers: Onne community drags firm to court over MOU

Onne community in Eleme local government area of Rivers State have dragged the management of Notore Chemical Industries a State High Court in Nchia over alleged breach of a memorandum of understanding reached with the community.

One Mr. Counsellor Okpoo and three others who represented the community dragged the company to court

over  alleged failure to implement an agreement reached with host community 21 months ago.

Justice C.D. GREEN who presided over the matter, adjourned  further  hearing on the originating summons filed by the claimants to January 31, 2022  to enable the defendant  enter their defence in the matter.

 Isaiah Kanwi appeared for the claimants while Teddy Favour Oyibo appeared for the defendant.

The Onne community is asking for a review of the memorandum of understanding between them and the company, 24-hour power supply through Notore’s gas turbine or any other source facilitated by the company.

Other demands includes job opportunities in managerial positions, graduate training, supervisors in various departments, unskilled training.

The community also asked for promotion of host community members that have served in the company for more than 3 years and the conversion of natives that are not staffers of the company to direct company staff, removing them from every outsourcing contractor.
