Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) is to appear before the Rivers State House of Assembly next week Monday for interrogation following outcries concerning the alleged substandard job it is carrying out on the dualisation of the Bori-Kono road in Khana local government area.
The assembly also directed that the company handling the dualisation of Omoku-Egbema Road in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area be invited too.
Chairman of the House Committee on Works, Michael Chinda who spoke with journalists at the ongoing budget defence said, “for the contractor handling the Bori-Kono axis of the Saakpenwa-Kono Road and the Omoku-Egbema road, the director of civil has been directed to come with them here on Monday to answer some questions.”
He also hinted that his committee may likely alter the budget for the Ministry of Works to accommodate some internal roads in the state.
PHSpectator reports that there have been lots of outcries from concerned citizens of the state on the shabby job being done on the two roads. Latest was that from the Ogoni Youth Federation led by its President-General, Legborsi Yamaabana who, few days ago raised an alarm over the substandard job being executed by CCECC.
OYF while celebrating the invitation by the assembly in a statement by its publicity secretary, Lene Lekue Kingsley, enjoined Ogoni people to remain calm as they are committed to ensuring that the company construct the road in line with the Bill of Quantity and Bill of Engineering Measurements and Evaluation (BEME) they signed with the Rivers State Government.
The statement added: “To some Ogoni leaders, who are threatening the President-General of Ogoni Youth Federation, Comrade Legborsi Yamaabana with arrest and persecution for daring to question the below-average Bori-Kono road, we wish to inform them that this is not a party affair but a Pan-Ogoni affair and no amount of threat shall deter the Ogoni youth boss from advocating for the collective development and wellbeing of the Ogoni nation”.
